Threads of Compassion

GET INVOLVED!

Threads of Compassion is a loosely connected group of survivors of sexual violence who desire to offer comfort and support to recent victims. The idea is simple. Anyone whose life has been affected by sexual assault or abuse is welcome to knit or crochet a scarf which in turn will be given to a victim of sexual violence when they enter the hospital for emergency treatment.

I am looking for women, (or men) to come and help me bag and tag scarves Saturday, August 6th. For those of you who don’t know I run a group called “Threads of Compassion” which provides scarves as a sign of comfort and support to women who have been sexually abused or assaulted. I currently supply scarves to two rape crisis centers in Chicago (which in turn bring them to the hospitals when they get calls). While trying to keep up with the national needs of the group (keeping up with emails, helping people establish groups in other cities, helping other rape crisis centers find groups, etc), I tend to get behind in the basic bundling! I receive scarves from people all over the country (truthfully the world) and right now I have TONS and I need help in getting them ready to bring to the centers.

What this involves is tying the scarves into a bundle with a ribbon, and then placing them in a t-shirt bag. I want to meet in the Jesus PeopleUSA garden room August 6th at around 2:00 on Saturday, and see how much we can get done before dinner. I will provide all the scarves and ribbons, etc. I just need the people to help!

If you want to check out my website to get a better understanding of what Threads is all about, the website is : http://threadsofcompassion.bravehost.com/

This is an easy way to help reach out to support women who are in extreme need. If you think you will be able to help, please let me know so I can plan on how many people are coming.
Thanks so much,
Sarah Sullivan
